[30] Much confusion has appeared about death date. Rev. John B. Cowden said "about 1834" and has been much quoted. One DAR application places it even before Cowden left NC (1818), and before his last children were born. The source cited give the correct death date; his son Humphrey N. Cowden was administrator. John Cowden occurs, with correct age categories, in each census through 1840. (Giles Co. 1820, Lincoln Co. 1830, Marshall Co. Co. 1840)
